A Look At The 2018/2019 Premier League Season

Premier League

Following England’s admirable performance during this year’s World Cup, the attention of the fans now turns to the 2018/2019 Premier League.

The 27th edition of the tournament promises to be an exciting one, particularly thanks to the experience gained by players over the summer.

Apart from homegrown players, the League will also welcome numerous foreign ones, from Europe, South America and Africa. 20 teams will be battling it out for the prestigious cup, and these are some of the favorites.

Manchester United

The Red Devils don’t need any introduction. They’ve won the Premier League a total of 13 times, and this year they’ll certainly fight to make it 14. As team manager José Mourinho plans his strategy, he’ll be hoping for a better performance by his Chilean forward, Alexis Sanchez. In the last season, Sanchez was only able to deliver a couple of goals.

Meanwhile, fans are excited to see what Paul Pogba will bring to the League. The French national is still celebrating his nation’s win of the World Cup and the important role which he had in it. Whilst his performance is often great, players are hoping for some extra magic this year. The team has very good odds to lift the cup this year. In fact, these are the best odds it has had since Ferguson left.

Liverpool currently has the second highest odds to win the championship. The Reds succeeded to be the runners-up in the Champions League and come in fourth place. Klopp has quite a few great players to utilize in his plans. The team’s main attack trio, Salah, Mane, and Firmino will give any team’s defense a run for their money.

However, Klopp is also keen to see a return on investment from Keita, Fabinho, and Alisson. Questions also remain about Lallana’s ability to play following an injury.

Manchester City

The winners of the last edition of the Premier League will be doing whatever they can to defend their title this year. Odds are certainly in their favor, although only one team has managed to win the League twice in a row; City’s bitter rivals, United. Pep Guardiola has a strong team this year, with many players eager to improve on their previous performance.

Defender John Stones doesn’t have the best reputation with his teammates and coach. He is considered responsible for the goal which helped Croatia beat England in the World Cup. There’s a similar anticipation of the performance of Benjamin Mendy. Following a knee injury last year, fans are hoping he’ll make a full recovery in time for the first match.

The Gunners will be playing with a new coach for the first time in 22 years. This edition of the Premier League sees Arsène Wenger bow out and Unai Emery take his place. The Spaniard has quite an uphill battle to get the team to a level necessary to take home the cup. 2004 was the last time that the Gunners succeeded, and fans believe that it’s time for a repeat performance.

This puts a lot of pressure on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has a superb minute per goal ratio with only a few players having a better performance. Even with Aubameyang, however, Arsenal’s odds of winning are quite low.

The hype is on for World Cup 2018

On 14 June 2018, the 21st edition of the most loved international football tournament kicks off in Russia. With a line-up of 32 competing countries worldwide, this year’s World Cup promises to be an exhilarating experience for all football fans.

The recent announcement of the 35-man squads has fueled speculation as the football coaches are expected to narrow down the teams to 23 players by 4 June. In the meantime, the tickets for the football matches in Russia are selling like hot cakes.

Up to now

When the World Cup was held on European soil it always seemed to attract a European win. It remains to be seen, however, whether Russian territory will eventually bring luck to European or non-European squads. Hard to imagine Russia, as a host country, winning the football championship but World Cups always bring in surprises or dismay.

From all the competing teams, Brazil is the only country that has never missed to play in the World Cup. They can humbly boast a five-fold World Cup win, three of which they won in Latin America. The odds are that with a strong team, they are highly likely to make it for the semi-finals. Will the Brazilian team manage to beat the living daylights out of Germany, with whom it suffered a bitter defeat of 1-7 in the semi-finals of World Cup 2014?

Germany, from its part, is determined to defend its World Cup title from 2014, when they beat Argentina 1-0 in the final on extra time. Meanwhile, fans of England also have their high hopes. The only time England won a World Cup was when they were host in 1966. World Cup 2014 saw this team’s worst ever performance. Hopefully this time round they can manage to pump up their stardom.

There is still time to wait and see.
